AN IMPORTANT ANTIQUE FRENCH LOUIS XV PERIOD CARTEL TIMEPIECE signed FERDINAND BERTHOUD
circa 1765

An important French Louis XV period cartel timepiece, the dial and the movement signed FERDINAND BERTHOUD, the case executed in ormolu, the cresting above the dial with two shaped acanthus leaves and terminating in a feather finial, the shaped concave sides with pierced S-scrolls, the lower section below the dial decorated with shaped acanthus leaves, the timepiece having an eight-day movement and quarter repeating mechanism, the circular white enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours, the minutes shown in Arabic numerals around the outer edge of the dial.

Height 18 1/2in (47cm). Width 8 1/2in (21.5cm).
